Here is a trailer of what I'm working on at Maxis. These characters look great and it is really exciting to take a step back from moving pixels around and see that this is something people are really going to enjoy.

This past weekend I was a part of a team that competed in a Code-a-thon put on by Health Technology Forums. We put in a good effort and on Sunday were awarded Second Place. The team members on this were Kevin Hines, Ryan Prince, and I with some very excellent consultation by the founders of Concrn - http://www.concrn.com/, Doug Marks and Jacob Savage. Claire Kaufman also consulted remotely.
The purpose of the App is to allow people who struggle with mental wellness increase self-awareness and empower them to reach out to trusted friends, doctors, and clinicians with the touch of a button. Kevin, who is a mental health advocate and speaker, shares his 10 Steps for Living Mentally Well in this app and will ask users to share stories that promote the mental wellness of the community. Kevin's site and Story can be found here: http://www.kevinhinesstory.com/ Thank you to Health Technology Forums for allowing us to participate and we look forward to attending the 2014 HTF Innovation Conference next week. Below is some of the artwork I've put together for the app and its presentation. I put together these logos for a couple of friends that are starting up small businesses. My wife, Ashley, is starting http://www.atkads.co- a business for all of your PPC ad solutions. And my friend Joe Hazard is starting a baseball academy here in the bay area. Feel free to email me for information about either.
Anyway, these were fun to put together. This is more zombie progress. I put this down for a while. It was good to come back to this to see how I could make the character more zombie-like. Tearing up more skin and exposing bone and muscles have help formulate the story behind this character.
Just posting some life sketches from today. More than anything these are here to remind me to remind myself to sketch more- oh and to stop ignoring feet. These were 3 or 5 minute poses.
Season 4 of Game of Thrones begins at the end of this month so in my excitement I sketched the above image of Arya Stark.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIASaUUwklk My amigo, Matt Waggle, pointed me to a page full of some killer Photoshop brushes. The charcoal brush used for this sketch felt fairly natural. Download it near the bottom of the following tumblr page: http://digitalbrushes.tumblr.com/ Enjoy! Below is a quick tryout of Marvelous Designer 3. http://www.marvelousdesigner.com/
I was playing around with the different tools to make the jacket below. Right now it is just a partial "Thriller" jacket, but I hope to get further along with the Darth Vader 80s high school character. (Concept by Italian illustrator, Denis Medri - http://denismedriartworks.blogspot.com/) Right now, MD3 does not feel faster than just modeling in Zbrush, but it is an interesting way to study garment construction. I can see that if an artist has robust knowledge of how garments are constructed MD3 would at the very least be a quick way to block in overall shapes, seams, and folds. Controlling the fabric feels clumsy at times, but that is likely due to the learning curve. Making some secondary elements for the zombie pinup character. This smiling face will be looking up at the pinup and the cameo is for bathing suit decorations.
This is a sculpt of a piranha creature. He's ferocious and probably is allergic to bullshit and peanut butter. He is going to be paired with the zombie pinup girl that I am working on.
